While there have been many studies extolling the medical virtues of drinking tea, a group of Egyptian scientists discovered that green tea is particularly effective when taking an antibiotic to fight resistant superbugs.

The researchers tested green tea in combination with antibiotics against 28 disease-causing microorganisms belonging to two different classes. According to Dr. Mervat Kassem, a member of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alexandria University in Egypt, "in every single case green tea enhanced the bacteria-killing activity of the antibiotics." One example he gave was the killing effect of the antibiotic chloramphenicol, which was 99.99% better when taken with green tea than when taken on its own in some circumstances.
