Bipartisan legislation drafted by Senators Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) would make it illegal for pharmaceutical companies to pay generic manufacturers to keep lower priced alternatives off the market. The Federal Trade Commission has already argued that it is illegal for a brand name drug company to pay a generic firm to delay sales of a cheaper equivalent. "It's time to stop these drug company pay-for-delay deals that only serve the profits for the companies involved and deny consumers access to affordable generic drugs," commented Senator Kohl.
