A serendipitous outcome has been preliminarily reported with the experimental use of the century-old bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine. Once used to protect against tuberculosis, researchers studying its potential use as a treatment in type 1 diabetes found that those enrolled and having received vaccination prior to the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated unexpected protection against COVID-19 as well.
