Growth Hormone Use in Pediatric Patients Linked to Cardiac Issues
According to a cohort study published recently in JAMA Pediatrics, pediatric patients who received recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) had an increased risk of cardiovascular events once they reached early adulthood. In this study, Tidblad et al explored the long-term risk of overall and severe cardiovascular events in patients treated with rhGH in childhood to ascertain if there is a correlation with treatment duration or dose. Icosapent Ethyl Linked to Decreased Inflammation and Improved COVID-19 Symptoms
According to a presentation at the recent virtual National Lipid Association Scientific Sessions meeting indicates that the use of icosapent ethyl reduced levels of inflammatory biomarkers, including a 25% reduction in high-sensitivity C-reactive protein with promising short-term safety and tolerability results. Antidepressants Associated With Increases in Hemorrhagic Stroke?
In a recent publication, results from a 13-year study involving more than 900,000 Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suggest that selective serotonin or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors were linked to an expanded risk of hemorrhagic stroke. The results of this study shed light on the possible associations between PTSD and antidepressant use and a heightened risk of hemorrhagic stroke in veterans. Read more.
