FDA Expands Indication for Ticagrelor
On June 1, 2020, the FDA announced the approval of an expanded indication of ticagrelor, an oral, reversible, direct-acting P2Y12 receptor antagonist for reducing the risk of a first myocardial infarction or stroke in high-risk patients with coronary artery disease. This is the first regulatory approval for aspirin plus ticagrelor dual-antiplatelet therapy in patients who have a high cardiovascular risk without a history of heart attack or stroke. Read more

Statins Linked to Worse Glucose Homeostasis in Geriatric Patients 
Studies have indicated that statins have been associated with the development of diabetes and atherosclerotic plaque calcification with cardiac disease. According to results from a study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society, the use of statin therapy is also associated with elevated levels of insulin resistance in older patients. Adherence to Antihypertensives Linked to Improved Survival 
According to results from a large, nested, case-control study conducted in Italy and published in Hypertension, adherence to antihypertensive treatment was associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular mortality among elderly patients, including frail individuals, although the benefit is less marked than in older patients with a good clinical status measured by the Multisource Comorbidity Score.
