New Ketamine Recommendations for Acute Pain
According to new guidelines published in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, patients suffering from acute pain may now benefit from ketamine infusions. Prescribers interested in avoiding an increased risk of opiate addiction in at-risk populations and patients needing pain relief who are otherwise unable to take opiates may now find nonopiate pain-relief options. SSRI/SNRI Study: No Increased Cardiac Surgery Bleed Risk
A study published in Anesthesia & Analgesia in June 2018 reveals findings by investigators who explored the risk of bleeding in cardiac surgical patients also taking selective serotonin or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs/SNRIs) compared to a control group not receiving these psychiatric medications. Although these agents are known to interfere with platelet aggregation, the study did not find an increased association in these patients. Read more.
