Inactive ingredients That Pose Health Risks Under Investigation

A new report highlights evidence about the unexpected and undesirable presence of vendocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which have been defined by the Endocrine Society as “chemicals that mimic, block, or interfere with hormones in the body’s endocrine system.” EDCs have been associated with a diverse array of health issues, yet few know about the potential hormone-disrupting properties that these additives exhibit. Hope Dampened for Antidepressant Intervention After Stroke 
Building on earlier studies that showed initial promise for beneficial effects of the use of the antidepressant fluoxetine on functional outcomes following a stroke, researchers in Sweden embarked on a more robust exploration of the medication’s potential benefits. In this study published July 2020 in The Lancet Neurology, read more about why researchers were disappointed to learn that the drug seems to confer no such benefit.  

Repurposed Bisphosphonates a Cure for Hearing Impairment? 
New research suggests that bisphosphonates may help reverse hearing loss in patients who have a specific form of hearing loss. This preliminary report has generated enthusiasm to consider future trials that would utilize more robust methodology in order to determine possible new indications for these “older” bone-strengthening drugs.
