Importance of Flushing Infusion Administration Sets When Administering IV Antimicrobials  
Failure to administer the appropriate dose of IV antimicrobial agents can lead to treatment failure and drug resistance. Underdosing of IV medications may result from failure to flush infusion administration sets. It has been estimated that 5% to 20% of IV medications are left in the administration set tubing if the line is not flushed.
