Atherosclerosis Riskier for Postmenopausal Women Than Same-Aged Men

The standard treatment for atherosclerosis might not be enough to prevent cardiovascular events in postmenopausal women at high risk, according to a new study. Adding to the danger for women, the researchers found, is that they have higher rates of nonobstructive heart disease. The researchers suggest that different medication regimens might be needed to adequately prevent the events. Read more.

Which T2D Drug Class Prevents Cardiac Events Best?

The American Diabetes Association recommended that two drug classes be used to treat patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and comorbidities. A study of U.S. veterans without pre-existing heart disease found that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists worked best in preventing outcomes such as nonfatal stroke, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular death.
