DOACs Noninferior to LMWH for Cancer Patients

Because low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) requires SC administration, it can be more burdensome for cancer patients with venous thromboembolism, even though that is what is widely recommended. The guidelines could be changing, however, with the results of a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that found direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are noninferior to LMWH. Paxlovid Lowered Risk of Hospitalization, Death in COVID-19 Patients

Early clinical trials of antivirals that work against COVID-19 were conducted among unvaccinated participants before the emergence of the Omicron variant and subsequent sublineages. New studies looking at the effectiveness of Paxlovid found that it prevents hospitalization and death, although not as effectively as in early studies in a younger cohort.
