COVID Booster Uptake Could Save Thousands of Lives

Without increased uptake of bivalent COVID-19 booster shots, a predicted infection surge this winter might cause a lot of suffering and high associated expenses. That is according to a new Commonwealth Fund study that found even a moderately successful vaccine campaign would prevent 75,000 deaths and more than 745,000 hospitalizations and generate savings of $44 billion, compared with baseline. Stimulant Prescriptions for Insured Teens Doubled From 2009 to 2019

Over the last decade or so, prescriptions for controlled substances have burgeoned for adolescents and young adults, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Associate Pediatrics. In a 12-year period ending in 2019, prevalence of stimulant prescriptions rose from 22.5 to 44.0 per 1,000 in adolescents and 10.3 versus 30.4 for young adults. Read more.
