To assess the effect of a multimodal group exercise intervention as an adjunct to conventional care on fatigue, physical capacity, general wellbeing, physical activity, and quality of life in patients undergoing chemotherapy, researchers from Denmark conducted a randomized, controlled trial. The researchers supervised the exercise activities of 269 patients with cancer, including high-intensity cardiovascular and resistance training, relaxation and body awareness training, and massage 9 hours weekly for 6 weeks.

The patients showed an estimated reduction in fatigue, the primary outcome. Significant effects were also seen in vitality, physical functioning, role physical, role emotional, and mental health scores. Improvement was also noted in physical capacity. No marked effect was observed on quality of life.
