On Wednesday, October 11, the IDWeek 2023 Opening Plenary features a presentation that will describe the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning as applied to medical practice; identify the current and potential applications of AI in infectious diseases; and analyze the role of AI in improving medical diagnosis and treatment planning, including its potential impact on patient outcomes and safety.

The Opening Plenary will be moderated by Heather Yun, MD, deputy commander for medical services, Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, and Carlos del Rio, MD, professor of medicine, Medicine/Division of Infectious Diseases, Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Decatur, Georgia.
    
The Opening Plenary faculty is Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, chair of the department, Biomedical Informatics, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Kohane will address AI and the Future of ID.
